4 Things I Did For Better Skin In My Late 20s Than I Had In My Early 20s

4 Things I Did For Better Skin In My Late 20s Than I Had In My Early 20s

If you'd told me in my early 20s that my skin would be calmer, clearer and healthier in my late 20s, I probably wouldn't have believed you.

For years, I felt like I was constantly chasing the next treatment, the next miracle product or the next thing that promised perfect skin.

But the biggest improvements didn't come from doing more.

They came from doing less.

Here are the four changes that made the biggest difference to my skin.

1. I Stopped Over-Exfoliating

For a long time, I believed that stronger treatments meant better results.

I regularly booked chemical peels and microdermabrasion treatments, hoping they would improve breakouts, redness and uneven skin texture.

Instead, my skin often became irritated, inflamed and more reactive.

Once I stopped constantly stripping and resurfacing my skin, things began to improve.

The lesson?

More isn't always better when it comes to skincare.

If your skin feels tight, irritated or constantly sensitised, your skin barrier may be asking for a break.

2. I Focused On My Skin Barrier

This was probably the biggest game changer.

I stopped using harsh cleansers and switched to a gentle cream cleanser that cleansed my skin without leaving it feeling stripped or dry.

Many people unknowingly damage their skin barrier through aggressive cleansing, over-exfoliation and using too many active ingredients at once.

When your skin barrier is healthy, it can better retain moisture, defend against irritation and maintain a healthy glow.

One of the easiest changes I made was swapping foaming cleansers for a gentle cream cleanser.

If you struggle with dryness, redness or sensitive skin, our Clean & Calm Cream Cleanser was created specifically to support and nourish the skin barrier while gently cleansing the skin.

3. I Invested In Treatments That Actually Worked For Me

The treatment I've consistently come back to is microneedling.

I still have a session roughly every three months.

For me, it's been one of the most effective treatments for improving overall skin texture, reducing the appearance of old acne scarring and supporting healthy skin renewal.

The reason I love it is that it's relatively low maintenance, yet I can genuinely see results.

Of course, every skin type is different, but finding a treatment that delivers visible results is far more valuable than jumping from trend to trend.

4. I Prioritised Gut Health

Skin health isn't just about what you put on your skin.

It's also influenced by what's happening inside your body.

One of the biggest shifts I made was focusing on:

  • Staying consistently hydrated
  • Eating enough healthy fats
  • Prioritising nutrient-dense foods
  • Supporting overall gut health

While skincare plays an important role, healthy skin often starts with healthy habits.

Final Thoughts

The biggest lesson I've learned is that healthy skin isn't usually built through complicated routines.

It's built through consistency.

For me, that looked like:

✔️ Stopping over-exfoliation
✔️ Protecting my skin barrier
✔️ Choosing treatments wisely
✔️ Supporting my body from the inside out

If you're struggling with sensitive, reactive or dehydrated skin, sometimes the answer isn't adding more products.

Sometimes it's simplifying everything.
